Yoga & Mindfulness for Potters

 Boston potter? Check out these in-person workshops this January! We'll cultivate embodied awareness, care for areas of the body that feel worn, and re-inspire our relationship to clay. ​
What We'll Do
  • Explore a breath-based chi gong-inspired warm-up designed to use regularly before you throw, build, or sculpt.
  • Practice both yin (receptive) and yang (active) poses with a focus on capacitating patience and endurance.
  • Investigate postural habits, and ways to align and stabilize the spine and avoid overusing the shoulders.
  • Learn the foundations of Buddhist mindfulness, practice meditation, and discuss its relevance to ceramics and life.

Take One or Two Sessions!
  • Wednesday, January 28, 7-9pm:
    The "yin" (quieter) session, with more floor- or chair-based postures and meditation instruction.
  • Saturday, January 31, Noon-2pm:
    The "yang" (mobilizing) session, with more breathwork, standing postures, and movement.​

Helpful Notes
  • All are welcome, especially any crafters who tense their shoulders and tire their hands.
  • Please bring a yoga mat and strap if you have them.
  • Chairs will be available for those who prefer them.
  • If you prefer the description of one session over the other, but can only make the other date, note there will still be a bit of yin with the yang and yang with the yin. (If you don't know what this means, come and learn this useful framework for understanding energy and effort and how it can be applied to your ceramics work!)
