Practicing Together This online meditation practice group, or sangha, will use everyday experiences as material for transforming discomfort into compassion. As we learn from our own journeys as well as from each other, compassion--the naturally arising wish to alleviate suffering in ourselves and others--can grow. It can become readily accessible, a replacement for judgement, and even a way of being.
“Deep listening is the kind of listening that can help relieve the suffering of another person.” -Thich Nhat Hanh
About RAIN Meditation RAIN is a compassion meditation method that helps us skillfully relate to everyday emotional pain. It was developed by Vipassana teacher Michele McDonald and has been popularized by Tara Brach.
When RAIN is practiced relationally by a group, there are two points at which there are options to share/listen about what is happening for each other in the meditation process, which helps develop a sense of shared humanity.
Ultimately, the promise of RAIN is to overcome self-abandonment through self-acceptance, and overcome a sense isolation through the wisdom of interdependence.
Session Details
Six online sessions, on first Mondays of the month: July 6, August 3, September 7, October 5, November 2, and December 7.
Sessions will be 75-minutes-long, beginning 12pm EDT (New York) | 6pm CEST (Berlin).
Each session will include some dharma notes, 20-30 minutes of meditation, and time for sharing/listening.
Mindful Group Guidelines will be provided, and care taken to promote connection and ensure confidentiality.
Being on camera is encouraged as it helps build sangha; however, it is understood we all prefer to be off camera at times.
As it is unlikely every group member will be able to attend every session, recordings will be emailed to the group.
Only dharma and meditation portions will be recorded; individual shares/personal discussions will not be recorded.
